This client approached Elan needing to take their existing wholesale only operation online in order to generate sales to the general public. In addition to this our client wanted to streamline their own ordering and internal administration processes in relation to their existing trade customers who traditionally ordered by telephone or fax.

Our brief was to firstly establish a brand name that would appeal to its target audience and identify the most effective URL for their site to run from. Our initial branding ideas focussed on well know phrases and terms use by the football fraternity and following exhaustive competitor research we and the client decided that Back of the Net was the most appropriate name for the online shop as it not only implies a sense of achievement and winning but would also translate into a highly creative logo which would prove memorable and therefore encourage repeat business.

Much research was conducted around the URL and taking the view that the site name didn't necessarily need to mirror the company name but needed to best reflect the offering of the shop, together with the client, settled on the URL www.discountfootballstore.co.uk which reflects accurately the type of business being promoted.

Once both brand name and URL were finalised we were able to begin the design process for the logo and the design (see below) and design and build process for the website involving many stages - all of which can be viewed to the right. Our initial ideas for the logo were defined to an extent by the need to create a balanced logo that would sit effectively in a website header banner and provide a clear (typo) graphical representation of their offering so that it became instantly recognisable and synonymous with excellent value football merchandise.

The website design and build began (as it always does) with the drawing up of a detailed sitemap from which concepts could be created. Once again the design needed to closely reflect the subject matter of the site and offer a complement the logo style created. From here we provided base concepts that were discussed and developed to incorporate features that would provide easy navigation and information for both trade customers and consumer sales (including the quicklinks and the scoreboard message service – which can change according to requirement and can advertise special offers, discounts, telephone numbers etc.)

The build of site centred around the extensive database which contains all the products offered and can be filtered by team and type of products - from hats and scarves to homewares, the site is built to Google compliant standards and basic search engine optimisation has been applied in the form of keywords, page titles, content and descriptions which accurately reflect the site’s offering.

Elan continue maintain and update the site on a monthly basis and the client is now considering using the services of our highly effective search engine marketing partners High Position to achieve page one listings in what is a very competitive market.
